The foreword of Nike SB dunk

Nike SB was founded in 2002 and marked the beginning of a new wave in building sneaker culture.

At this point in time, the norm will be broken. Not only did Nike SB team up with Supreme for the first skate-specific Dunk shoe with an elephant print from the Jordan 3, but they weren’t just for skaters either.

Nike SB will truly begin to transform the minds of hardcore skateboard advocates before partnering with renowned streetwear brand Supreme, serving notable professionals of the era, such as Gino Ianucci, Reese Forbes, Danny Supa, and Richard Mulder, making for them Dunk Low Pro SB with a personal signature color.

The collaboration with other brands, Zoo York and Chocolate, came shortly after Supreme’s release craze and the original four skaters’ signature colorways. Before long, the idea of brands co-launching products will take on a new meaning, even artist collaborations or special projects with famous sneaker shops.

2003-04 was when the Nike SB collection started to explode further, launching another collaboration with Supreme on Dunk High, and a year later, the Team Manager collection was born, and they gave different skating labels like Diamond Supply Co.’s Nick Tershay teamed up with Robbie Jeffers of Stussy to release Dunk Lows.

Eric Koston has been a household name in skateboarding since the ’90s, but his name will start to shine even more when he signs with Nike SB in 2009.

Dunk has changed its design again by adding more cushioning to the back of the heel to prevent the shoe from slipping, while the outsole ensures grip. Shortly after this notable design influence, Dunk Low and Dunk High, inspired by Thai culture, were released.

Richard Mulder was one of the original four Nike SB team members who also had their own signature Dunk Low colorway. Mulder’s inspiration behind his unique colors came from his first pair of Nikes, the white and blue tennis shoes. Not only is he one of four, but his shoes are also the first-ever Dunk SB.

Similar to Richard Mulder, Reese Forbes also wanted to create a color similar to another pair of shoes. Thus, he drew inspiration from suede work boots. On top of that, he replaced pig suede with traditional cow suede, creating a soft-textured aesthetic.CLICK BUTTON 1

After the top four skater-inspired colorways of the SB Dunk Low, Nike then turned to each team member’s sponsor for design inspiration. First up is Danny Supa’s Zoo York sponsor, whose co-founder utilizes a series of templates for shoe art and advertising. To this day, it remains one of the most sought-after OG shoes by SB collectors.CLICK BUTTON 1

Reese Forbes was one of the original four SB team members who got their signature color on Dunk, and it wasn’t long before he became the first to get a second.

The shoes are infused with tannins, referencing design details from jeans that appeared at the time, including various wear details. Nata Kaupas is an acclaimed art director in the industry who helps bring shoes to life. Early samples even had their own artwork printed on the insoles, but the samples never went into production.CLICK BUTTON 1

Ben & Jerry’s x Nike SB Dunk Low “Chunky Dunky”

The design of the shoe body is inspired by the packaging design of the co-branded ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s, which integrates elements such as blue sky and white clouds, green grass and green space, cows, ice cream candies, etc. The frame of the shoe body is made of horsehair-like material, and the black and white decorations form the pattern of cows.
The bright yellow Swoosh Logo on the side has a dissolving effect, which is matched with the vamp decorated with simple strokes, showing a very coordinated novel design.
Not only is the exterior design unique, but the details are equally unique.
